Lions Overcome Slow Start to Beat Lindsey Wilson

Box Score The Lindenwood basketball team overcame a slow start and upended the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders 74-65 on Monday night at the Hyland Arena.

The game started with Lindsey Wilson scoring the first points of the game, followed by the Lions tying the score. Lindenwood grabbed a three-point lead with 13:32 to play in the first half, and then there seemed to be a lid on the hoop for the Lions. Over the next seven minutes, Lindenwood was two-for-22 shooting the ball, and allowed Lindsey Wilson to take a seven-point lead.

Finally, at the four-minute mark, Tyler Ressel connected on a three-pointer which sent the Lions on a 12-0 run to take a five-point lead. The Blue Raiders were able to chip away at the lead and got it down to one at the end of the half.

The opening half saw Lindenwood shoot 29 percent from the field and 25 percent from behind the three-point line. Fortunately for the Lions, after playing one of their worst halves of the year, the team was still leading by a point.

The start of the second half was a different story for the home team. The Lions made their first 10-of-12 shots to take a 10-point lead. The Blue Raiders cut the lead to four on two separate occasions, but every time they would, Lindenwood had an answer. In the final 20 minutes, the Lions shot 59 percent from the field and pulled out a big victory over the NAIA's No. 19 team.

After a tough first half shooting, Lindenwood was still able to shoot 44 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arc. The Lions dominated the boards, outrebounding Lindsey Wilson 37-29, including a 14-4 margin on the offensive glass. Lindenwood's defense forced the Blue Raiders into 16 turnovers while the Lions turned it over just eight times.

Kramer Soderberg led the team in scoring with 19 points, which is the seventh time this season he has been the high scorer. Alex Bazzell continued his streak of scoring in double figures every game this season with 18, and also dished out seven assists. Garret Reeg chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Efkan Eren led the team with 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Lions improve their record to 10-1. Lindenwood will have some time off for the holidays, and will be back in action on Dec. 28 when the team travels to Las Vegas, Nev. for a three-game stretch.
