The Lindenwood Lady Lions were trailing late in the second half, but battled back and beat the Graceland Yellowjackets 62-58 in St. Charles, Mo. on Saturday night.
Lindenwood struggled shooting the ball in the first half, making just 10 of 33 shots. Even though the home team shot poorly in the opening half, the Lady Lions still held a slim 23-22 lead at the end of the first half.
As the second half began, the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 12-2 run to take a nine point lead. Lindenwood cut the lead to two on four separate occasions but could not tie or take the lead until the 2:38 mark.
Caroline Bourlioux scored on a driving lay-up to give the Lady Lions the lead that they would not relinquish. The Lady Lions were five of six from the free throw line down the stretch and held on for the 62-58 win.
After a poor shooting first half the Lady Lions were much better in the second half. Lindenwood shot 52 percent in the final half and 40 percent for the game. The home team outrebounded the Yellojackets 37-31 and both teams committed nine turnovers.
Sarah Schnieders led the way for the Lady Lions scoring 17 points while also grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Bourlioux chipped in with 11 and Christina Edwards scored 10.
With the win the Lady Lions improve to 17-8 and 12-4 in HAAC play. Lindenwood will be right back in action Monday night against the visiting, Avila Eagles.
