The Lindenwood Lions baseball team traveled to Magnolia, Ark. for a three-game series against NCAA Division II, Southern Arkansas. The Lions fell in the opening game 16-5 and dropped game two 12-3. Lindenwood came back in the final game of the series and won 9-5.
On Monday afternoon, the Lions salvaged the final game of the series winning 9-5. For the third straight game the Lions jumped out to an early lead. Lindenwood was up 4-0 after the third inning but the home team cut the lead in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
The Lions added to their lead in the fifth with two runs and three more in the sixth. The game headed into the ninth inning with the Lions holding a 9-4 lead. The Muleriders were only able to muster one run and Lindenwood held on for the win.
Lindenwood out hit Southern Arkansas 16-9 and the Lions committed two errors to the Muleriders' one.
Shelby Anderson led the way for the Lions hitting his third and fourth homeruns of the season. He ended the day going three for four with three RBIs. Crispin Tarango and Adam Peacock both compiled four hits. Zac Pearman started for the Lions and finished just one out short of a complete game.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in game one of the series Sunday afternoon, scoring a run in the second inning and two in the third, to take a 3-0 lead. Southern Arkansas answered back in the fourth inning with three runs, and then the flood gates opened. The Muleriders scored six runs in the fifth, five runs in the sixth, and two more in the seventh inning.
Lindenwood was led offensively by Anderson, who went one for three, including his second homerun of the season. Mike Moore also hit a homerun and Peacock was two for four. Evan Vinyard started on the hill and went 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.
In game two, the Lions once again held an early lead. Lindenwood was leading 3-1 heading into the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, Southern Arkansas took the lead 5-3 after scoring four runs. The home team then scored eight more runs in the final two frames.
Matt Tellor led the way for the Lions in game two going one for three which included a three-run homerun. Cody Trudell started the game on the mound and went 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits and striking out five.
After going 1-2 in Arkansas the Lions are now 6-4 on the season. Up next for Lindenwood is a road trip to Lubbock Christian.
