Lindenwood Baseball Falls to No. 5 Lubbock Christian

The Lindenwood baseball team dropped the first two games of a three-game series against No. 5 Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas. In game one the Lions fell 13-3, and in the final game of the day, Lubbock Christian won 12-0.

In game one, the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Chaparrals answered with a four run frame in the bottom of the second. The home team scored four more in the third to extend the lead to 8-1. The Lions cut the lead to five after scoring two runs in the fourth. But in the bottom of the fourth, Lubbock Christian scored five runs to take a 13-3 lead. Lindenwood was not able to muster a run in the top of the fifth and the Chaparrals won in five innings.

The Lions were outhit 15-5 in game one and Lindenwood committed three errors on defense. Shelby Anderson led the way offensively for the Lions going two for two including his sixth homerun of the season. Crispin Tarango also connected on a long ball, his first of the season.

Game two was much of the same. Lubbock Christian scored two runs in the first, one run in the third, and three runs in the third to take the 6-0 lead. Lindenwood was unable to bring any runs across and in the fifth the Chaparrals ended the game with a six run frame.

Lindenwood's offense was able to muster just four hits. Julian Marquez started on the hill for the Lions but was able to go just three innings, while surrendering 10 hits and five earned runs.

With the two losses, the Lions drop their record to 6-6 and will conclude the series against Lubbock Christian Sunday afternoon.
