Lady Lions Fall in Overtime to MidAmerica Nazarene

The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team had its second six-game winning streak of the season come to an end on Saturday afternoon after falling to MidAmerica Nazarene 92-87 in overtime on the road in Olathe, Kan.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with the two teams trading the lead on seven different occasions. As the game headed to the half the Pioneers held a four-point lead.

It took the Lady Lions five minutes to even the game in the second half after Shantey Hibbler connected on a layup. MidAmerica came right back and took the lead, then extended it up to six. Trailing by six with just over 12 minutes to go, the Lady Lions went on a quick 6-0 run to once again tie the score.

MidAmerica would not give up the lead to the Lady Lions until the five minute mark when Morgan Harrington scored to give Lindenwood its first lead of the second half. The advantage didn't last long as the Pioneers scored on the next possession to tie the game.

The two teams would trade the lead back-and-forth along with five ties until the final buzzer of regulation. With the scored tied, the game headed into overtime.

Overtime started with the teams trading baskets until the Pioneers forced a turnover and turned it into points, giving the home team the 86-81 lead. MidAmerica extended the lead to six but Harrington scored to cut the margin to four.

After the Pioneers hit one of two free throws to extend the lead to five, Sarah Schnieders scored to get the Lady Lions within three. That was as close as the visitors got. The Pioneers iced the game going four for four from the free throw line to hold on for the win.

Lindenwood shot 58 percent from the field but hit just two of seven from behind the three point line. The Lady Lions outrebounded the Pioneers 34-23 but committed 19 turnovers compared to MidAmerica's 15.

The Lady Lions were led offensively by Harrington and Caroline Boutlioux who each scored 23 points. Harrington also led the team with eight assists. Sarah Schnieders chipped in with 19 points and grabbed four rebounds.

With the loss the Lady Lions drop their overall record to 19-9 and 14-5 in conference play. Lindenwood has a week off until the team will play its final regular season game next Saturday against William Jewell at Hyland Arena.
