Men's Basketball Rebounds From Loss With Win At Benedictine

The No. 10 Lindenwood men's basketball team bounced back from last Thursday's overtime loss with a 61-45 road victory over Benedictine on Saturday afternoon.

After its first two losses of the season, Lindenwood allowed just 53 and 55 points, respectively, in its next game. The Lions repeated that winning formula of strong defense against the Ravens by allowing the lowest single-game point total this season.

Benedictine opened the game hot, making five of its first seven baskets, and grabbing a 10-4 lead just four minutes into the game. Lindenwood's defense took over at that point as the Ravens scored just 10 points the rest of the half. A 10-0 run by the Lions late in the half helped them go into the locker room with a 30-20 halftime lead.

Four times in the second half, Benedictine cut Lindenwood's lead to single digits, but each time the Lions quickly increased their advantage. A pair of three-pointers by Kramer Soderberg and two field goals by Garrett Reeg in the final seven minutes helped thwart the Ravens' final comeback attempt.

The Lions held Benedictine to just 37.3 percent shooting from the field for the contest, including 31.8 percent after the Ravens fast start. Lindenwood allowed just one three-pointer and made eight on offense. Lindenwood also won the rebounding battle by a 36-30 margin.

Soderberg drained five three-pointers and had a game-high 23 points. Alex Bazzell and Reeg each scored 11 points. Bazzell dished out a season-high seven assists, and Reeg led the team with seven rebounds.

Lindenwood improves to 21-3 overall and 12-2 in conference play. The Lions remain one game ahead of William Jewell in the HAAC standings, and moved 1.5 games in front of Evangel after the Crusaders were upset on Saturday at Baker. Lindenwood will be in action again on Thursday at Missouri Valley.
