Lions Baseball Sweeps Tripleheader

Lindenwood University baseball reliever Cody Trudell performed a rare feat on Sunday. Trudell earned three saves in one day during a tripleheader against nationally-ranked LSU Shreveport. The Lions won the games by scores of 7-4, 9-8, and 7-6.

In the first game of the tripleheader the Lions jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, after scoring three runs in the second and three in the third inning.

Shreveport cut into the lead after scoring four runs in the bottom of the third. But that was as close as the home team got, as the Lions won 7-4.

Zach Loraine led the way for the Lions at the plate, going two for three with three RBIs. Evan Vinyard (2-0) started on the mound for the Lions and went five innings, struck out five, and surrendered five hits. Cody Trudell pitched the final 1.2 innings for his first save of the year and the day.

Game two started off quickly for both teams. The Lions scored four runs in the top of the first, which was answered by Shreveport, who also scored four. Lindenwood scored one run in the second, but Shreveport took the lead after a three run frame of its own in the second. Shreveport added another run in the third to take an 8-5 lead.

Trailing by three, the Lions did not go down easily. Lindenwood slowly chipped away scoring a single tally in the fifth and then tied the game in the sixth with two runs. Then in the seventh inning Lindenwood completed the comeback, scoring one run to win the game.

Daniel Sandello led the way for the Lions in game two with two hits, three RBIs, and his first homerun of the season. Mike Moore and Shelby Anderson also drove in two runs apiece.

Kyle Little (1-1) was awarded the win after pitching in the sixth inning. For the second straight game, Trudell got the last out of the game to record his second save.

In the final game of the day, the Lions took a 4-2 lead after three innings. Both teams scored single tallies in the fourth, and the Lions held a 5-3 lead. Lindenwood added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 7-3. Even though Shreveport was trailing by four, the home team did not go down quietly. Shreveport got as close as one run before the Lions bullpen got the final out.

Anderson had a huge third game, going two for three and driving in five runs. Mario Parra and Adam Peacock also added RBIs.

Zac Pearman(1-1) started for the Lions and got the win after throwing 5.1 innings, and surrendering just three earned runs. For the third straight game Trudell got the save.

With three wins over the weekend, Lindenwood improved its overall record to 5-2.
