Lady Lions Finish Undefeated in Pool Play of National Tournament

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team completed pool play in the ACHA National Tournament by beating Rhode Island 4-3 on Friday in Kalamazoo, Michigan. 

The Lady Lions drew first blood for the third consecutive game, as Kelsey Talbot scored a minute into play. 

Taking a 1-0 lead into the second period, Lindenwood converted a power-play opportunity and went up by two. A couple minutes later, Rhode Island put two pucks in the net to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third period.

With six minutes remaining in regulation, Ashley Rebeck put the Lady Lions in front. But in the final minute of the third period, Rhode Island scored a power-play goal and sent the game into overtime. 

Three minutes into the overtime period, Lisa Moreau netted the game-winning goal for Lindenwood and sent her team into the semifinals. 

Rebecca Bernet saved 33 shots in the victory, while Lindenwood put 30 shots on the Rhode Island's goal.

On Thursday, Lindenwood defeated Grand Valley 4-2, and shutout Michigan 5-0 in the first two games of pool play.

Against Grand Valley, the Lady Lions scored less than a minute into the game, with the goal coming from Samantha Redick. Near the end of the first period, Grand Valley tied the score at 1-1.

About midway through the second period, Talbot put Lindenwood in front. The Lakers tied the game again towards the end of the period, but Redick netted her second goal of the game to give the Lady Lions the advantage heading into the final period. 

There was no scoring in the third until Redick added an insurance goal on the power play with less than a minute remaining in regulation. The goal gave Redick a hat-trick for the game, and a total of four goals on the day. 

Bernet stopped 19 shots in goal for Lindenwood to earn the victory, as the Lady Lions outshot Grand Valley 46-21. 

Earlier on in day one of the tournament, Lindenwood defeated Michigan by a score of 5-0.

The Lady Lions started quickly, as Deven Staiger scored in the opening minutes of the first period. With eight minutes left in the period, Talbot and Rebeck each put away goals to give 
Lindenwood a three-goal advantage heading into the first intermission. 

Redick added a power-play goal early in the second period. With six minutes remaining, Christy Mason cemented the win, netting the fifth goal of the game for the Lady Lions. 

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the final period. 

Bernet stopped 24 shots to record the shutout between the pipes for Lindenwood. 

The Lady Lions will play Michigan State in the semifinals on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
