The Lindenwood softball team traveled to Lebanon, Illinois on Tuesday and fell in both games of its doubleheader with McKendree by scores of 6-1 and 7-6.
The Lady Lions were held to just three hits in game one and scored their lone run in the fifth inning on an error by the opposition with the bases loaded. A bright spot for Lindenwood was
Kim Ruth continuing her hot-hitting, recording two singles in the lead-off position.
McKendree scored one run in the first and five more runs in the second inning, as a result of an unfortunate Lindenwood error that allowed the inning to continue.
Aubrey Moss got the start for the Lady Lions, surrendering six runs on eight hits in three innings, but only two of those runs were earned.
Megan Noe pitched well in relief, going three innings without giving up a hit and striking out three batters.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, thanks to RBI-singles by both
Jessica Long and
Kate Kolisch.
McKendree came back with three runs over the next two innings to take a 3-2 lead. Lindenwood put up three runs in the fifth on a homerun by Long and a two-run single by
Bailee Winkler.
Yet again, McKendree came back to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to steal the victory. Lindenwood tallied 14 hits in the loss, and Long hit for the cycle.
Noe got the start for Lindenwood and went four innings giving up three runs on four hits, with only one of those runs being earned.
Heidi Schertzer pitched in relief, surrendering four runs on six hits and striking out five batters, but received the loss.
The Lady Lions (11-11, 2-0) will travel to Liberty, Missouri on Saturday to take on William Jewell in a conference match-up.
