The Lindenwood softball team split its doubleheader against Division II opponent Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson City, Missouri.
The Lady Lions grabbed the early lead in game one, manufacturing two runs in the second inning.
Heidi Schertzer got the start on the mound and pitched five innings, while surrendering only three hits and striking out three batters.
Megan Noe replaced Schertzer in the sixth.
In the seventh inning, Sopie Berman hit a two-run homerun to give Lindenwood a 4-0 cushion going into the bottom of the seventh. But Lincoln fought back with a four-run inning off six hits to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
The Lady Lions put two more runs on the board in the eighth on a two-run double by
Chelsea Landeck and led 6-4.
Aubrey Moss then came into the game in relief, and put the Blue Tigers down in order to get the save. Noe received the win.
In the second game, Lincoln scored a run in the first inning and three more in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. But Lindenwood came back to make things interesting.
The Lady Lions got one run back in the fifth inning when Berman led off with a double and later managed to score on an error.
Lindenwood edged closer in the final inning, after
Jessica Long hit a two-run homerun with only one out. But with the tying run on first, the Lady Lions could not tie the game, and fell 4-3.
Lindenwood moves its record to 12-12 on the season after the split. On Thursday, the team heads to Rolla, Missouri to take on another Division II team, Missouri S & T.
