The Lindenwood women's softball team swept the doubleheader against Bemidji State on Wednesday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex, winning by scores of 8-1 and 9-2.
The first game began with the Lady Lions jumping out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings of play. In the fifth inning,
Jessica Long added to the Lindenwood advantage, hitting a two-run homerun. Bemidji State put a run up on the board in the sixth, but Lindenwood put up two runs of their own in the bottom-
half of that inning as well.
Aubrey Moss received the complete-game win on the mound for the Lady Lions, racking up eight strikeouts, while only giving up one run on five hits.
Long led the offense for Lindenwood, collecting three hits, one being a homerun, and three RBIs.
Sophie Berman contributed with two hits and scored two runs.
In game two, the Lady Lions picked up right where they left off, scoring four runs on five hits in the first inning. Each team scored twice in the third inning, but Lindenwood would add three more runs before the end of the game to win by seven.
Heidi Shertzer pitched well, recording five strikeouts, while giving up two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Bailey Marshall and
Emily Johnson each tallied three hits and batted in a runner.
Bailee Winkler bombed another homerun to continue her hot hitting.
On Saturday, Lindenwood will host St. Xavier in a doubleheader, as it continues to get ready for conference play.
