Lady Lions Continue to Hang with NCAA Opponents

The Lindenwood softball team traveled to Illinois on Friday and split its series against Quincy, losing 6-0 in game one, but bouncing back for a 5-1 win in game two.

The first game of the day was marred by four errors by the Lady Lions' defense. Starting pitcher, Adi Powell, gave up five runs on five hits, but only one of those runs was earned. Powell received the loss, but did not issue a walk and struck out three batters in four innings.

Megan Noe pitched two innings in relief, surrendering just one run on two hits and striking out two batters.

Offensively, Lindenwood struggled to help out its defense, as it managed only one hit. That lone hit came in the third inning from Sophie Berman, but she was left stranded on first base.

Lindenwood started much better in the second game as it jumped out to an early lead and never let up on its way to a 5-1 victory.

Jessica Long gave the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead in the first, hitting her sixth home run this season.

Lindenwood doubled its lead in the third inning, rallying to score two runs on four hits. In the seventh, the Lady Lions would score another run on a double by Emily Johnson, and they would hold on for a 5-1 win.

Aubrey Moss pitched all seven innings for Lindenwood, giving up one run on five hits and striking out seven Quincy batters. The win gives Moss her seventh on the year.

Highlights for the offense included Berman going 2-3 and scoring three runs, setting the tone in the lead-off spot, and Johnson going 3-4 with a run batted in.

Lindenwood heads to Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday to play its fourth road series in as many days when it takes on Avila in a conference matchup.
