The Lindenwood softball team split its series against conference opponent, Baker, on Sunday afternoon at Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions won the first game 3-2, but fell in extra innings by a 3-2 score in game two.
Game one began with both teams getting on the scoreboard in the first inning. Baker put up one run in the top of the inning, and Lindenwood came back with two runs in the bottom half. The Wildcats tied the game 2-2 in the third inning. But leading off the bottom of the sixth,
Chelsea Landeck drove a ball over the wall, slicing just inside the right-field foul pole for a game-winning home run.
Aubrey Moss pitched all seven innings, striking out eight batters and conceding just one earned run on three hits to capture her 10th win of the season.
The second game of the doubleheader started again with Baker getting a run in the first inning. The Lady Lions would again come through late in the game, taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run triple by
Sophie Berman.
But the Wildcats would come back this time, scoring a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game 2-2. Both teams went scoreless until the top of the tenth, when Baker was able to score their placed runner from second. Lindenwood was unable to find a way back and dropped the game 3-2 to split the series.
Heidi Schertzer got the start on the mound, going seven innings, surrendering just two runs on six hits and striking out seven batters. Moss came on in relief in the eighth inning, allowing just one hit in three innings of work, but received the loss after Baker scored their runner from second in the tenth inning.
Lindenwood (18-16, 5-1) will travel to Springfield, Missouri on Monday to face Evangel in another conference doubleheader.
