The Lindenwood softball team completed a sweep of Evangel on Monday afternoon in Springfield, Missouri. The Lady Lions won the two games by scores of 6-4 and 7-1.
Lindenwood got off to a hot start scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, but Evangel was able to come back with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Lions would go on to score one run in third, fifth, and seventh innings to grab the lead, and they did not surrender another run, holding on for a 6-4 victory in game one.
Alyssa Esperum collected two hits in four at-bats and had two RBIs to lead the offense.
Bailey Marshall also batted in two runs for the visitors.
After a rough start for
Aubrey Moss,
Megan Noe pitched 6 2/3 innings in relief, not allowing any runs and giving up just seven hits to earn the win.
Game two began with Evangel grabbing a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but that would be the only run the Lady Crusaders would get, as Lindenwood scored seven unanswered runs to end the game. The Lady Lions began their scoring stretch with one run in the fourth inning, followed by four in the fifth, and two in the sixth.
Adi Powell got the start for Lindenwood, and pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run on nine hits to get the victory.
Offensively,
Sophie Berman went three for four with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Jessica Long registered three hits and scored a run, while
Sophia Galati went two for four with two RBIs and scored one run.
Lindenwood (20-16, 7-1) will continue on the road when they head to Fayette, Missouri to face Central Methodist in another HAAC matchup.
