The Lindenwood softball team split its doubleheader with Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night at Lou Brock Sports Complex. Lindenwood lost the first game 2-0 but won game two by a score of 5-4.
The Lady Lions fell into 2-0 hole early in the first game and could never put a run on the scoreboard to come back from the deficit. Lindenwood managed just four hits in the ballgame and committed two errors on defense.
Adi Powell got the start on the mound for the Lady Lions, pitching seven innings, allowing just two runs, only one being earned, on six hits and striking out four batters, but still received the loss.
The offense for the home team sputtered, collecting just four hits and never advancing a runner past second base.
The second game was scoreless until the home team broke through with a run in the third on a wild pitch. But Missouri-St. Louis came back with two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Lions put up four runs on the board, with two runs coming on a
Sophie Berman two-run double off the wall in right field.
Chelsea Landeck scored the game-winning run after being driven in on a fielder's choice by
Courtney Locke.
Heidi Schertzer received the win for Lindenwood after coming on in relief to pitch 2 2/3 innings, surrendering just two hits and striking out three.
Megan Noe got the start and pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and striking out two batters.
Berman and
Sophia Galati led the offense for Lindenwood, each recording two hits in the win.
Miranda Schlosser and Locke each collected an RBI, while Berman supplied two.
The Lady Lions will host Benedictine on Saturday at Lou Brock Sports Complex at 1 pm.
