Lady Lions Take One of Two From Benedictine

The Lindenwood softball team took one of two games against Benedictine on Saturday afternoon at Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions lost game one 7-6 but were victorious in game two by a 4-1 score.

Lindenwood jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, when lead-off hitter Sophia Galati hit a homerun off the scoreboard in left field. The Ravens had an offensive outburst in the third inning though, scoring four runs.

Benedictine added to its lead in the fourth, knocking in two more runs to lead 6-1. Lindenwood came back with a run in the bottom of the inning to lessen the lead to four runs.

After the Ravens tallied another run in the top of the sixth, the Lady Lions started their comeback with three runs and made the score 7-5 heading into the final inning. Megan Noe prevented Benedictine from increasing the deficit in the top half of the seventh. But Lindenwood couldn't convert a bases-loaded opportunity and came up just short, falling 7-6.

Miranda Schlosser led the offense with three hits, including a crucial triple, and two RBIs to go along with a run scored. Galati also had two RBIs and scored two runs. Kimberly Ruth and Jessica Long both contributed two hits in the loss.

On the mound, Aubrey Moss received the loss, pitching 2 2/3 innings, conceding four runs on four hits, and striking out two batters. In relief, Noe went 4 1/3 innings giving up two earned runs on three hits.

In the second game, Lindenwood got out in front in the first inning, getting three runs, two of which came on a double by Emily Johnson.

Each team got a run in the fifth, but the Lady Lions held on for a 4-1 win. Both teams registered just three hits in game two.

Heidi Schertzer got the win for the home team, striking out seven batters and allowing just an unearned run and three hits in six innings. Adi Powell came on in the seventh and pitched a perfect inning to receive the save.

Offensively, Sophie Berman, Johnson, and Landeck were the only Lady Lions that reached on hits.

Lindenwood (22-20, 8-4) will return to the diamond on Sunday when it plays host to Missouri Valley at 1 pm at Lou Brock Sports Complex.
