Lions Swept by Culver-Stockton

The Lindenwood Lions baseball team was swept on Sunday afternoon by the Culver-Stockton Wildcats. The Lions lost game one 2-0 and fell in the second game 15-3.

Culver-Stockton started off the game scoring a run in the top of the first innings. It could have been way worse for the Lions. The Wildcats had first and second and nobody out but produced just one run.

The visitors added to the lead in the fifth with a single tally. Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning the Lions were trailing 2-0.

Dylan Lowery led off the inning with a walk, and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Daniel Sandello pitch hit and popped out to the first baseman. Next up was another pinch hitter, Jason Streigel. Another passed ball sent Lowery to third but Streigel was unable to bring home the run. The Lions last chance was Adam Peacock and he flew out to centerfield, and the Wildcats held on for the 2-0 win.

Crispin Tarango led the way at the plate for the Lions going two for three. Cory Trudell started on the hill for the Lions and had a strong start. He went seven innings giving up just one earned run and struck out four.

Once again in game two the Wildcats got on the scoreboard first. This time it was the second inning when Culver-Stockton brought across two runs on two hits. The Wildcats opened the game up in the fourth. The visitors scored six runs to extend the lead to 8-0.

The Culver offense exploded in the six with a six run frame and beat the Lions in six innings 15-3.

After the two losses on Sunday the Lions drop their overall record to 27-20 and 17-7 in HAAC play. The Lions will take on McKendree Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles.
