The Lindenwood Lions baseball team came from behind and beat the McKendree Bearcats 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles.
McKendree got on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The Bearcats threatened again in the second inning but with the bases loaded and two outs,
Crispin Tarango induced a ground ball to first base for the final out of the frame.
The Bearcats added to their lead in the fourth inning when they scored on a wild pitch. It was the Lions' turn in the fourth inning to threaten. After the Lions got their first hit of the day they eventually loaded the bases, but were unable to bring across any runs.
Lindenwood finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. The Lions scored three runs to tie the game on three hits. The visitors took the lead back in the fifth inning with a pair of runs.
Shelby Anderson got one of the runs back for the Lions in the seventh inning after his 12th home run of the season.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lions took the lead for the first time on the day.
Daniel Sandello led off the inning with a single and then
Carlos Pianetta hit his first home run of the season to give Lindenwood the lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, Pianetta came in and retired the Bearcats to record his first save of the season. Not only did Pianetta record the save, but he hit the game-winning home run, and he played all nine positions on the field.
With the win, the Lions improve their overall record to 31-21. Up next for the Lions is a nonconference game against Missouri Baptist Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in St. Charles.
