Lady Lions Edged by William Jewell by 2-1 Score in 19-Inning Affair

The Lindenwood softball team had its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, as it fell 2-1 to William Jewell in 19 innings of the final game of a three-game series in the first round of the HAAC Tournament at Lou Brock Sports Complex.

This three and a half hour event came the day after these two teams took part in a double-header that included a 14-inning game two.

Each team had 12 hits and an error, with the pitchers on both sides throwing very effectively. For Lindenwood, Aubrey Moss pitched all 19 innings, throwing over 200 pitches, allowing just two runs on 12 hits, while issuing only two walks and striking out nine batters.

The Lady Lions got on the board in the first inning, when Sophie Berman singled to right-center field and drove in Sophia Galati from second base.

The Cardinals tied the game in the fourth inning and the scored would remain that way for 14 more innings.

Neither team could muster a run against the pitching on display in this playoff matchup, with Lindenwood stranding 18 runners on bases, while the Cardinals left 11. Finally though, in the 19th inning, William Jewell broke through with a two-out hit to drive in the winning run. Lindenwood could not tie the game and the Cardinals advanced to the next round of the HAAC Tournament.

Leading the Lady Lions on offense was Berman, who went 4-8 with a double and had the team's lone RBI in the loss.

Lindenwood finishes the season with a 30-23 overall record and a 15-5 conference record.
