Men's Lacrosse Earns First Victory Over a NCAA Division II Opponent

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team picked up its first victory over a NCAA Division II program on Friday afternoon with a 9-8 victory over Adams State in Alamosa, Colo.

Goalkeeper Dan Ashlock outplayed his counterpart in order to earn the win for the Lions. Adams State outshot Lindenwood 45-24, but Ashlock made 21 saves, compared to just three for the Adams State goalie.

Lindenwood scored less than two minutes into the game, but Adams State scored six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead. The Lions answered with five consecutive goals before the end of the half and the two teams were tied 6-6 at the break.

Both teams scored once midway through the third quarter before Lindenwood went ahead with a goal with just seven seconds remaining in the period. In the final quarter, Adams State tied the game at eight less than a minute into the quarter. Greg Cameron then scored what turned out to be the game-winner for the Lions with 10:09 remaining. The rest of the quarter belonged to Ashlock as he made eight fourth quarter saves to preserve the win for the Lions.

Cameron led the Lindenwood offense with three goals and two assists. Andrew Peterson also scored three times and Jordan McKay had three assists. Other goals came from Tyler Davis, Kyle O'Donnell, and McNein Hewiit. Ashlock had a team-high six groundballs. Richard Wilson had five groundballs and won 11 of 17 faceoffs.

Lindenwood improves to 10-4 with the victory. The Lions return to MCLA play tomorrow with a road game at No. 2 Colorado State.
