The Lindenwood Lady Lions kept their record perfect with a 3-1 win over Bethel (Tenn.) Friday afternoon in St. Charles.
Bethel got on the scoreboard first after Lindenwood goalie Whitney Calvin was called for a penalty in the box which resulted in a penalty kick for the Wildcats. Rachel Rathbone took the free kick and scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
In the 27th minute, the Lady Lions were able to tie the score after a penalty kick of their own. Bailey Cody was fouled just inside the penalty area and she connected for her first goal of the season.
Cody stuck again in the 31st minute when she scored off a perfect corner kick by Jennifer Tenholder. The Lady Lions held the 2-1 lead heading into the halftime break.
Lindenwood added to its lead in the 63rd minute when Courtney Bresnahan finished off a pretty pass from Miranda Schrock. The Lady Lions defense played stellar the rest of the way and held on for the win.
Calvin stopped all but one of the Wildcats five shots and she recorded her fourth win of the season.
With the win the Lady Lions improved their record to 4-0 which is the best start for Lindenwood since the 2008 season. Up next for the Lady Lions is a home game against Newman on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
