Lions Take on Webster and McKendree

Storyline
After sweeping two future MIAA opponents last week in Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State, the Lions will start a busy week.

Lindenwood starts off the week with a home game against the Webster University Gorloks. The Groloks are a NCAA Division III team that has gotten hot. Webster lost its first eight-of-nine games but has battled back and won its last seven in a row.

After having just one day off the team will travel to Leabanon, Ill. to take on the McKendree Bearcats. McKendree is 13-9 on the season.  

Last Time Out
Six different Lions scored in double-figures and the Lindenwood men's basketball team earned a 77-49 win over Northeastern State last Saturday.

For the second straight game, Lindenwood won the game with a big second half. Despite shooting just 31.3 percent from the field in the first half, the Lions still lead 34-24 at halftime. Alex Bazzell had 13 points in the first 20 minutes and Garrett Reeg scored eight.

In the second half, Lindenwood outscored the Riverhawks by a 43-25 margin, including a 31-10 mark over the first 12 minutes of the period. The Lions shot 63 percent in the second half, hit eight-of-11 three-pointers, and held Northeastern State to just 29 percent shooting from the field.

Kramer Soderberg finished the game with a team-high 14 points and five assists. Ten of his points came during Lindenwood's run to start the second half. Bazzell finished with 13 points and four assists, Efkan Eren had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Reeg recorded 10 points and seven boards.

Michael Boos and Tyler Ressel both came off the bench to score 10 points. Boos was perfect shooting as he was four-of-four from the field, including two-of-two from three-point range.

Quick Start
The first half has been very kind to the Lions this season. The team is averaging 44.3 first-half points, which is more than 13 points than its opponents.

Ressel Scoring
Tyler Ressel has been a huge addition to this year's team. Ressel is averaging 9.9 points off the bench, and is leading the team in free-throw shooting (.935) and three-point percentage (.511).

Charity Stripe
The Lions have been frequent visitors to the free-throw line this season. The team is averaging 28 free-throw attempts a game, compared to its opponents who are taking just 17. The team has made more free throws than its opponents have taken.

There has only been one game this season that team has shot fewer free-throws than its opponents.  
As a team, Lindenwood is shooting 77 percent from the free-throw line. Alex Bazzell is leading the team with 155 attempts.

Dominating the Boards
The Lions have outrebounded their opponents in all but two games this season. The team is averaging over nine rebounds more than its opponent.

Leading at the Half
When Lindenwood has the lead at the half it equals a win. Through 20 games this season, the Lions have held a lead in 16 contests. There has only been one time Lindenwood has not held onto a halftime lead.

Approaching 1,000
In just a year and a half at Lindenwood, Kramer Soderberg is approaching 1,000 career points. As of the team's last game, Soderberg has scored 952 points.

Coaching History
In just two and a half years, Brad Soderberg is moving up the all-time wins list at Lindenwood. Midway through this season, Soderberg has 70 wins as the Lions head coach which ranks him third all-time. He is 13 wins away from becoming the winningest coach in school history.

Playing Extra Time
This season, the Lions have played four overtime games. The team is 2-2 in games decided in overtime.  

Lock Down Defense
The Lindenwood defense has been solid all season. In 14 games this season, the Lions have held opponents under 45 percent shooting.

Consistency
For all 20 games this season, the Lions have used the same starting lineup. The group of Soderberg, Thompson, Bazzell, Reeg, and Eren are scoring 57 points of the team's average of 89.6.

Leading Late
In every game but two this season, the Lions have held a lead with five minutes remaining. The team is 16-1 when leading in the final moments.  

Home Court Advantage
The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his two and half seasons at the helm, the team has compiled a record of 34-5 at home. This season, the team is 6-1.

After playing its final game of its five-game home stand against Webster, the Lions will travel to Lebanon, Ill to take on McKendree.

About Webster
The Webster University Gorloks come to the Hyland Arena with a record of 9-9. The season started off slow for Webster, losing there first eight-of-nine games but have turned it on lately. The Gorloks have won last seven games.

Webster is averaging 72.4 points on offense and are surrendering 74.8 on defense.

The Gorloks are led by Stefan Whittingham who is scoring 14.6 points and is also leading with 7.8 rebounds. Roman Robinson is second on the team with 12.4 points.

Chris Bunch is the head coach and is in his ninth season. He has compiled a record of 128-95 at Webster.

About McKendree
The McKendree Bearcats host the Lions with a record of 13-9. The Bearcats have won their last two games.

As a team, McKendree is scoring 74.8 points on offense and giving up 68 on defense. The team is shooting 46 percent
from the field and 32 percent from behind the three-point line.

John Steppe is leading the team with 13.6 points a game. Sean Rakers is second on the team with 12.9 points. David Ruckman is the team leader with 6.8 rebounds a contest.

Harry Statham is the head coach of the Bearcats. He is in his 46th season at the helm. He has won the most games of any coach in college basketball. Statham's total has reach over 1,000 wins.
