Alison Wickenheiser Scores Five Goals In Lindenwood's Victory Over Concordia

Alison Wickenheiser scored five goals and led the Lindenwood women's ice hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn.

Wickenheiser set team season-highs for goals and points with her performance. Four of her five goals came on special teams with two power-play goals and two shorthanded goals. She finished the game with 13 shots on goal and a +4 rating, both of which were also team season-highs.

Wickenheiser's first goal was also the game's first goal when she scored on a power play at the 8:40 mark of the first period. Lindenwood's Megan Cox scored her first goal of the season late in the period and the Lady Lions led 2-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, the Cobbers got within one just 2:10 into the period with a power-play goal. Concordia had another power-play opportunity a few minutes later, but Wickenheiser scored a shorthanded goal to steal momentum back to Lindenwood's side. The score remained 3-1 until Wickenheiser scored two more times in the final two minutes of the period, one at even strength and one on the power play.

In the final period, Lindenwood's defense sealed the victory by allowing just four shots on goal. The only goal came when Wickenheiser scored another shorthanded tally midway through the period.

Taylor Fairchild earned the win in goal after making 28 saves on 29 shots faced. Caitlyn Post, Kelsey Talbot, Allysson Arcibal, and Kendra Ganchar were all credited with one assist. Cox and Alyssa West both finished the game with a +3 rating. West took 36 faceoffs for the Lady Lions and won 22.

Lindenwood outshot the Cobbers by a 40-29 margin. Concordia outshot the Lady Lions in the second period by an 18-10 margin, but Fairchild stopped 17 of those shots and helped Lindenwood outscore Concordia 3-1 in that period. Lindenwood was two-of-seven on the power play, while Concordia was just one-of-five.

Lindenwood goes to 2-20-0 on the season after handing the nationally-ranked NCAA Division III Cobbers just their second loss of the season. The Lady Lions will have a three-game road trip to Minnesota next week with two games against Bethel and one versus St. Olaf.
