Men's Soccer Scores Late Goal to Beat Truman

Box Score The  No. 23 Lindenwood Lions men's soccer team scored a tie breaking goal in the 85th minute to secure a come-from-behind 3-2 win against the Truman Bulldogs on Friday afternoon in Kirksville, Mo.

The first goal of the game came at the eight minute mark from Truman's Nick Franta. Just 19 seconds later the Lions tied the score. Andre Hayne scored his fourth goal of the season after the Bulldogs goalie gave up a big rebound.

The contest was not tied for long as the Bulldogs scored their second goal of the first half just four minutes later. After three goals were scored in a four-minute span the two teams settled in and the game headed into the break with the home team up 2-1.

It did not take the visitors long to tie the score in the second half. Alfredo Paez scored just nine minutes into the second half to tie up the score. The next 30 minutes neither team was able to break the tie and the game looked like it would head into extra time. But in the 85th minute, Azeem Razwan scored his fourth goal of the season to break the tie and give the Lions a big road win.

The game was filled with penalties as the two teams combined for 44 fouls and five yellow cards. Fermin Hughes started in the net for the Lions and made four saves.

With the win Lindenwood improves its record to 9-2-3 overall and 6-0-2 in MIAA play. With the victory over Truman the Lions hold their own destiny for a chance to win the school's first MIAA crown. Lindenwood needs just two victories in its final two MIAA games for the regular season championship. Up next for the Lions is a road game against Upper Iowa on Oct. 21.
