Box Score The Lindenwood field hockey team defeated Mercy College 4-1 Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site game in Gaffney, S.C.
The Lady Lions opened up the scoring 14 minutes into play on an unassisted goal by
Kristi O'Connor. O'Connor's goal would be the lone goal of the first 35 minutes. Lindenwood outshot Mercy 8-1 in the first half with a 4-1 margin in shots on goal.
It only took the Lady Lions four minutes into the second half to add to their lead. Erin DeJesus added her third goal of the season with a deflection in front of the Maverick's net. Twenty seconds later, O'Connor made it 3-0 for Lindenwood with her second goal of the game. Mercy added a goal in the 51
st minute to make the score 3-1. O'Connor answered by recording her second hat trick of the season with another unassisted goal with 14 minutes left to play. The Lady Lions had nine shots on goal in the second half and held the Mavericks to zero.
O'Connor's hat trick brings her to 13 goals on the season. She is averaging a goal a game and leads the team with 32 points.
Victoria Gil started in net for Lindenwood for the 13
th straight time.
The 4-1 victory brings the Lady Lions to a 7-6 overall record. They will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Limestone College at 10 a.m.
