Box Score The Lindenwood women's field hockey team defeated Limestone College in a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory Saturday afternoon. The matchup was the Lady Lions' first of two games in the Division II Independent Alliance Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.
The first half was a defensive battle as both teams remained scoreless. Lindenwood's leading scorer,
Kristi O'Connor, put the Lady Lions on the board in the 51
st minute with an unassisted goal. Limestone answered with less than six minutes remaining in the game to even the score at one. At the end of regulation, shots on goal were tied with five a piece.
Limestone came out in the first overtime and recorded two shots on goal but could not find the back of the net as
Victoria Gil stopped both attempts. The Lady Lions failed to record a shot on goal in the first overtime.
The second overtime looked to be headed into a stroke off until O'Connor netted the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime. O'Connor's tally was her second in the game and her 15
th of the season.
Both teams recorded 15 shots apiece while Lindenwood held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Gil recorded five stops in the match.
The 2-1 victory brings the Lady Lions to 9-6 on the season. Lindenwood will play its second game of the tournament and final game of the 2012 season tomorrow against Bellarmine University at 11 a.m.
