Women's Basketball Falls In Final Exhibition Game To Division I Mizzou

Box Score The Lindenwood women's basketball team wrapped up its pre-season on Tuesday night with an exhibition game against Division I opponent Missouri. The Tigers defeated the Lady Lions 88-46 in Columbia, Mo.

A three-pointer by Julie Hlinak just over a minute into the game got the Lady Lions on the board first. The two schools battled back and forth in the opening minutes of the game, while Lindenwood took a 9-5 lead.

Missouri snagged the lead after a three-pointed by Bri Kulas prior to the first media timeout. Lindenwood answered back by a jumper by senior Sonya Milford, taking the lead back at 11-10. The Lady Lions extended their lead to 12-10 after a free throw by Tori Kuhn.

The Tiger offense kicked in, going on a 24-0 run in the middle of the first half, holding the Lady Lions scoreless for over ten minutes. At the 3:33 mark, a jumper by Milford got Lindenwood back on the board. The Lady Lions would go into the locker room down 46-19.

Despite being outscored 42-27 in the second half, the Lady Lions put up stronger numbers as a whole. The Lady Lions produced eight second-chance points in the second half compared to zero in the first along with reducing their turnovers by four.

Sophomore Meagan Hittle led the team with nine points while Milford produced eight for the evening. Freshman Emily Alfrey forced three turnovers on steals and senior Sarah Schnieders snagged seven rebounds in the contest.

The Lady Lions are set to open up the 2012-13 regular season on Friday with a contest against Fontbonne. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hyland Arena.
