Box Score The Lindenwood softball team fell behind early to Eckerd College but battled back to beat the Tritons11-9 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon in Clearwater, Fla.
After scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first inning the momentum quickly shifted to the Eckerd dugout. The Tritons scored the game's next five runs to take a 5-1 lead, but the game was far from over.
The Lady Lions started to chip away at the lead in the fourth inning scoring a single tally and then another run in fifth to cut Eckerd's lead to just two. The Tritons were finally able to slow the Lady Lions down and held a two run lead going into the final inning.
With just three outs left Lindenwood started off the top of the seventh inning with two straight singles. The tying runs were on first and second but Kendal Ryndak flew out to right field for the first out.
Megan Noe was the next hope for the Lady Lions and she drew a walk to load the bases.
Diedre Merli would ground out to second for the second out but drove in a run, and the runners moved up to second and third.
Down to its final out, Lindenwood tied the score with help from a Triton error. Eckerd got out of the inning without any further damage.
The Tritons went down in order in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Lindenwood struck first in the eighth inning scoring one run which was answered by Eckerd in the bottom half of the inning.
Once again the Lady Lions would put pressure on the Tritons with two runs in the ninth inning. Just like in the previous inning Eckerd answered with two runs of its own, to tie the score again.
In the 10
th inning, Lindenwood scored three runs on four hits to take the lead for the third consecutive inning. Eckerd was able to score a single tally in the bottom of the 10
th but the Lady Lions were finally able to complete its comeback and beat the Tritons 11-9.
Lindenwood outhit Eckerd 19-15 and both teams committed two errors. Ryndak led the Lady Lions at the plate going four-for-six and scored one run.
Emily Johnson was two-for-five at the dish with a home run and two RBIs.
With the win Lindenwood is now 2-3 on the season. Up next for Lady Lions is a road game against the University of Tampa on Feb. 15.
