Basketball Taking on Future MIAA Opponents on the Road

The Lindenwood men's basketball team venture away from the Hyland Arena for the final time of the regular season this week. The Lions will take on future MIAA opponents Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State.

The weekend starts off with Lindenwood taking on the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma. The Lions won the previous match up 88-58 in St. Charles.

To close out the road trip the team will travel to Northeastern State. The Riverhawks enter the game with a record of 5-18 and the fell to the Lions 77-49 earlier in the season.

Last Time Out
The Lindenwood basketball team beat the Victory University Eagles 92-67 in front of a big crowd dressed in red for the annual “Go Red” game last Tuesday night at the Hyland Arena.

Victory jumped out to a 5-0 lead with help from the Lions who missed their first three shots. But the Eagles lead lasted all of two minutes. Lindenwood's offense woke up and exploded out to a 21-6 run to lead by 11. The Lions extended the lead to 23 at the end of the first half.

The final 20 minutes was all Lindenwood. Just four minutes into the second half, the lead was already up to 34.  That would be the Lions biggest lead of the night and the advantage never got below 20 points.

Lindenwood shot 55 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line, and 90 percent from the free-throw line. The Lions outrebounded the Eagles 44-24 and the team compiled six blocks.

Kramer Soderberg led the way for Lindenwood with 20 points. Alex Bazzell scored 15 and Garrett Reeg chipped in with 14. Efkan Eren and Reeg led the team in rebounds with six.

Quick Start
The first half has been very kind to the Lions this season. The team is averaging 43.6 first-half points, which is more than 12 points than its opponents.

Ressel Scoring
Tyler Ressel has been a huge addition to this year's team. Ressel is averaging 10.0 points off the bench, and is leading the team in free-throw shooting (.872) and three-point percentage (.496).

Charity Stripe
The Lions have been frequent visitors to the free-throw line this season. The team is averaging 27 free-throw attempts a game, compared to its opponents who are taking just 17. The team has made more free throws than its opponents have taken.

There has only been two games this season that team has shot fewer free-throws than its opponents.  
As a team, Lindenwood is shooting 78 percent from the free-throw line. Alex Bazzell is leading the team with 211 attempts.

Dominating the Boards
The Lions have outrebounded their opponents in all but four games this season. The team is averaging over eight rebounds more than its opponent.

Leading at the Half
When Lindenwood has the lead at the half it equals a win. Through 26 games this season, the Lions have held a lead in 22 contests. There has only been one time Lindenwood has not held onto a halftime lead.

1,000 Points
Senior Kramer Soderberg is moving up the all-time scoring list at Lindenwood. Earlier in the season, Soderberg scored his 1,000 career point. He is in the top five in scoring at LU.

Coaching History
In just two and a half years, Brad Soderberg is moving up the all-time wins list at Lindenwood. Midway through this season, Soderberg has 75 wins as the Lions head coach which ranks him third all-time. He is eight wins away from becoming the winningest coach in school history.

Playing Extra Time
This season, the Lions have played four overtime games. The team is 2-2 in games decided in overtime.  

Lock Down Defense
The Lindenwood defense has been solid all season. In 21 games this season, the Lions have held opponents under 45 percent shooting. The Lions are 21-0 in those games.

Consistency
For all 26 games this season, the Lions have used the same starting lineup. The group of Soderberg, Thompson, Bazzell, Reeg, and Eren are scoring 56 points of the team's average of 88.

Leading Late
In every game but two this season, the Lions have held a lead with five minutes remaining. The team is 23-1 when leading in the final moments.  

Home Court Advantage
The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his two and half seasons at the helm, the team has compiled a record of 39-5 at home. This season, the team is 11-1.

After coming back from its final regular season road trip the Lions will wrap up their home schedule with a game against the McKendree Bearcats.

About Central Oklahoma
The Central Oklahoma Bronchos enter the game against the Lions with a record of 13-10. They have won their last four in a row and are coming off the team's biggest win of the season at Central Missouri. Lindenwood upended the Bronchos 88-58 in its first matchup.

The team is averaging 70 points on offense and 69 points on defense. Central Oklahoma is shooting 46 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc.

Brent Friday is leading the team in points with 14.1 and rebounds with 5.6. Shane Caroll and Tyler Phillips are second on the team with 11.3 points each.

Terry Evans is the head coach of the Bronchos. He is in his 10th season at the helm.

About Northeastern State
The Northeastern State Riverhawks enter the game with a record of 5-18. The team has lost its last four of five games.
The Lions beat the Riverhawks 77-49 in their first matchup.

The Riverhawks are averaging 59.9 points on offense and 62.5 points on defense. As a team, the Riverhawks are shooting 42 percent from the field and 34 percent from behind the three point line.

Jon Miller is leading the team in scoring with 11.5 points a contest. Ethan Anderson is second on the team in scoring with 10.7 points and is first on the team in rebounds with 5.0.

Larry Gipson is the head coach of Northeastern State. He is in his 13th season at the helm of the men's basketball program.
