Softball Competing at Saint Leo Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Lindenwood softball team is continuing its swing through Florida this weekend. The team is at the Saint Leo Invitational in Saint Leo, Fla. After the first day of play the Lady Lions are 0-3. Lindenwood fell to St. Mary's in game one 8-1, followed by a 10-2 loss to Saint Leo, and the team closed out the opening day with a 5-2 loss to Tampa. On day two, the Lady Lions fell to Armstrong Atlantic 8-0 and finished the weekend with a thrilling 9-7 loss to Pittsburgh State in extra innings.

In game one of day two Lindenwood fell behind early and never recovered. Armstrong State scored five runs in the first inning, and finished the contest via the run rule in the sixth inning with three runs. For the third time in 2012 the Lady Lions were shutout.

Lindenwood was out hit 13-2 in the game. Hannah Braun and Lindsay Shroder were the only two Lady Lions to get hits.

To close out the long trip to Florida Lindenwood took on future MIAA opponent Pittsburgh State. The Gorillas scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning which was answered by the Lady Lions in the bottom of the second. There was no scoring in the third or the fourth, then the runs were a plenty for both teams.

Pitt State took the lead in the fifth one run but that lead lasted all of a half an inning because Lindenwood scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Right back came the Gorillas tying the score again in the sixth inning.

It looked like Pitt State had control of the game in the seventh when it scored two runs to take the 5-3 lead. The Lady Lions were down to its final three outs and battled back to tie the score at five.

Extra innings started with both teams scoring a run in the eighth inning. In the ninth inning, the Gorillas scored three runs and Lindenwood only brought across one. Pitt State won the game 9-7 in extra innings.
