The Lindenwood men's volleyball team earned a season sweep over Missouri Baptist on Wednesday night with a 3-2 road victory over the Spartans. The match was close throughout as the largest lead by either team was just four points. The Lions were able to prevail by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, and 16-14.
Austin Tudor led Lindenwood with 14 kills, including the biggest one of the match. With the two teams tied at 14 in the fifth set, Tudor broke the deadlock with a kill. On match point, Tudor served and Missouri Baptist was unable to get the ball back over the net after a ball handling error on the libero.
Lindenwood struggled offensively on the night, hitting just over .200 for the match. The Lions came alive when it counted the most, though, as they recorded 10 kills and no errors in 19 attempts in the fifth set. Both teams finished with 58 kills and were nearly even in the other stat categories.
Two other Lions finished in double-figure kills as
JM Plummer had 12 and
Jack Mitchell recorded 11.
Tim Schmidt led the team with 34 assists and
Michael Adams had two aces. Both aces came in the fifth set as Adams helped Lindenwood overcome an early deficit.
Cory Buehler had a team-high 10 digs and Mitchell and
Scott Siwicki each had four blocks.
Lindenwood improves to 9-5 with the victory. The Lions will host Lewis, the No. 7 team at the NCAA Division I-II level, on Saturday at 7 p.m. That match will be the first time in program history that Lindenwood hosts a nationally-ranked NCAA Division I-II opponent.
