Men's Lacrosse Wins Opening Game Of 2012 Season

Box Score The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team won its first game as a varsity program on Saturday afternoon with a 14-9 victory over Lees-McRae in Rome, Ga.

The two teams played an even first half and the Lions led 6-5 at the break. The second half was all Lindenwood though as it pulled away for the victory. The Lions outshot Lees-McRae 30-10 in the second-half, had seven more groundballs, and six less turnovers.  A big reason for the strong second half was that Lindenwood was called for nine penalties in the first half, and none in the second.

Nine different players scored for Lindenwood, including three each for Andrew Peterson and McNein Hewitt. Joe Roy scored twice and Josh Arras had one goal and two assists. Other goals came from Kyle O'Donnell, Greg Cameron, Justin Stuebing, Carter McCracken, and William DelGrosso.

Dan Ashlock earned the win in goal after making seven saves. John Pettis had a team-high eight groundballs, one more than Peterson. Grame Hossack caused three turnovers, and Richard Wilson was 12-of-23 on faceoffs.

Lindenwood will stay in Rome overnight and will face the host school, Shorter, on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. central time).
