Men's Volleyball Has Three Matches In St. Louis and Chicago Regions

Storyline
The Lindenwood men's volleyball team hits the road this week for three matches. The Lions play at Fontbonne on Tuesday, take on Saint Xavier on Friday, and finish up with a contest at Lewis, the No. 6 team in the country, on Saturday evening.

Lindenwood has already faced two of those opponents at Hyland Arena. The Lions defeated Fontbonne in three sets, but they fell 3-0 to Lewis.

Last Time Out
Lindenwood went 1-1 last week with a road victory over Hannibal-LaGrange and a neutral site setback against Carthage. Both matches went just three sets.

Against Hannibal-LaGrange, Lindenwood won by scores of 25-18, 28-26, and 25-17. The Lions hit .323 for the match and held the Trojans under .200. Lindenwood recorded 12 blocks, compared to just four for Hannibal-LaGrange.

Carthage defeated the Lions 26-24, 25-22, and 25-11. The tables were turned on the attack percentages, with Lindenwood hitting under .200 and Carthage hitting .353. Defensively, Carthage collected 12 more digs.

Leading Hitter
Jack Mitchell is having a strong senior season, including leading the team with 3.27 kills a set. Mitchell has collected 242 kills and is hitting .250. He is also fourth on the team with 101 digs and second with 57 blocks.

Mitchell has led the team in kills in 12 matches and he has recorded double-figure kill totals in 14 of 21 matches. He has also led the team in digs in four matches, in blocks in five contests, in aces in three matches, and in points in 11 contests.

Mitchell had a big week last week, averaging 4.17 kills and hitting .426 in the two matches. He also averaged over two digs a set and had a 0.83 block average.

Career Statistics
Two Lindenwood seniors are approaching the school's top-10 career lists for some categories.

JM Plummer currently has 564 digs, which ranks eighth in school history. He needs 17 more to move into seventh. Plummer is also tenth in double-figure kill matches with 22.

Jack Mitchell is nearing the top-10 in kills, double-figure kill matches, and blocks.

Vs. Ranked Teams
Lindenwood is 0-10 in program history against nationally-ranked NCAA Division I-II programs, including 0-2 against top-10 teams.

Seven of the previous matches were 3-0 losses, two came in four sets, and one went to a deciding fifth set.

Lewis, which is ranked No. 6, will be the highest-ranked team that the Lions have ever faced.

All-Time Series
Lindenwood is 1-0 all-time against Fontbonne with the first meeting being earlier this season.

The Lions are 3-0 versus Saint Xavier, with every match being a 3-0 sweep. The two teams met once last year.

Lindenwood is 1-4 all-time against Lewis. The lone win came by a 3-0 margin during the 2006 season.

Earlier This Season
Lindenwood swept Fontbonne by scores of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-16. The Lions had their second-best hitting percentage and second-best defensive hitting percentage in that match.

Austin Tudor led Lindenwood with eight kills, and Michael Adams had seven kills and no hitting errors in one set. David Poole had a team-high seven digs.

The Lions fell to Lewis by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-17. Lewis hit over .400 for the match and had nine blocks.

Jack Mitchell led Lindenwood with 13 kills and five digs. Logan Jarus and Scott Siwicki combined for nine kills, five blocks, and a .563 hitting percentage.

About the Griffins
Fontbonne is 1-18 on the season and has lost 11 straight since its lone victory. The Griffins are led by returning all-conference players in libero Scott Ginger and hitter Michael Visintine.

About the Cougars
Saint Xavier is currently 7-14 on the year and has won two straight. The Cougars are 4-8 in MAMVIC East action.

Aaron Porter is the team's top overall player. He has a team-high 187 kills and 40 service aces, and is second with 135 digs. James Boyce leads the team with 322 assists, and the duo of J.T. O'Connell and Sean Blackwood both average just under a block a game.

About the Flyers
Lewis, which has two matches before Saturday, is currently 15-4 and ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division I-II national poll.

The Flyers are ranked in the top 10 in the nation in kills, blocks, and hitting percentage. Lewis averages 12.92 kills and 2.64 blocks a set, and it is hitting .326 for the season.

Jay Petty is the team's top hitter with 4.00 kills a set and a .316 attack percentage. Other team leaders are BJ Boldog with a 10.64 assists average, Greg Petty with 21 service aces, Eric Varney with a 1.91 dig average, and Yiwei Zhou with a 1.30 block average.

Lindenwood is off for a week before heading west for five matches in California and Arizona.
