Men's Volleyball Goes 1-1 On Day One Of Lindenwood Classic

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team split its two matches on day one of the 2012 Lindenwood Classic. The Lions fell in four sets to rival California Baptist, but bounced back for a three-set sweep over King.
The Lions opened the tournament with a loss to California Baptist by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-21.

California Baptist's offense and serve receive was the difference in the contest. In the three sets Lindenwood lost, the Lancers hit over .400 and had better than a 75 percent sideout percentage. In the second set which was won by Lindenwood, California Baptist hit just .194 and had only a 58 percent sideout percentage.

Jack Mitchell led Lindenwood's offense with 19 of the team's 47 kills. It was the third time this season that Mitchell recorded 19 kills, the most by a Lion in a match in 2012. Mitchell hit .455 for the match and also had 21.5 points, four blocks, and one dig.

Austin Tudor was the only other Lion in double-figure points with 12. He recorded nine kills, three blocks, and one service ace. Tim Schmidt had a team-high 40 assists, David Poole had seven digs, and Logan Jarus tied Mitchell with four blocks.

Lindenwood earned a 25-17, 25-22, and 25-14 win over King in the second match of the day. The top highlight came in the third set when Michael Adams served 14 straight times to help the Lions clinch the victory.

The Lions defense was dominate in the contest with 12 blocks and 34 digs, which caused King to hit just .049. Lindenwood had 21 more kills, 12 more digs, and six more blocks than King for the match.

Tudor and Mitchell led the way again as the pair combined for 23 kills. Jarus had nine kills and no errors in just 11 attempts. Schmidt had a team-high 20 assists for the Lions. Defensively, Adams had six digs and Evan Bruton had five blocks.

Lindenwood continues play in the Lindenwood Classic on Saturday with a 10 a.m. contest against Limestone and a 2 p.m. match with Pfeiffer.
