Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team lost two games to future MIAA opponent, Washburn, on Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo. The Lady Lions lost game one 10-9 in extra innings and 5-2 in the final contest of the day.
In the opening game, Washburn jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning. It only took the Lady Lions one pitch to tie the score in the bottom of the inning.
Hannah Braun homered over the right field wall to knot the score up at one.
The Lady Blues came right back in the top of the second to retake the lead with three runs. The score stayed 4-1 until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Lions cut the lead to one run. Once again, Washburn answered with three runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-3.
Lindenwood cut into the lead with two runs in the sixth inning and trailed by just two heading into the top of the seventh. The Lady Blue widened its lead with two tallies in the seventh which looked like it was all the visitors needed.
But the Lady Lions did not go down quietly. Lindenwood scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score up at nine, and send the game into extra innings. Both teams were unable to score in the eighth inning, but in the top of the ninth inning Washburn scored one run which was all it needed.
Braun,
Macy Bross, and
Erin Pietzman all had three hits in the loss for the Lady Lions. Braun and
Danelle Emerick both hit home runs in the game.
Kendall Ryndak started for the Lady Lions and went five innings giving up just three earned runs.
After a slugfest in game one, the second contest was much different. The first run of the game did not come across until the third innings when the Lady Blue scored one run. Lindenwood tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a run. Washburn scored another run in the sixth and opened up the game with three runs in the sixth.
Braun,
Alexandra Newcomb, and
Danelle Emerick all had two hits each. Newcomb and Emerick drove in the Lady Lions two runs.
Adi Powell started on the rubber and went six innings and surrendered four earned runs.
After the two losses Lindenwood drops to 7-19. The Lady Lions will be back in action on Sunday morning against Fort Hays State at 11 a.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
