Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team split a doubleheader against the Fort Hays State Tigers on Sunday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. The Tigers won the first game 7-0 and the Lady Lions answered in game two with a 9-3 win.
The opening game of the day was all Maddi Holub, the starter for the Tigers. She gave up just one hit in seven innings. Holub struck out 10 hitters and walked four in her 11
th win of the season.
Both pitchers started off the contest well.
Heidi Schertzer for the Lady Lions held down Fort Hays State until the fourth inning. The Tigers scored a run in the fourth then broke things open with three runs in the sixth and the seventh.
In the final game of the doubleheader, Lindenwood's offense came alive and beat Fort Hays State 9-3. The Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the first with a run after two hits. The Lady Lions answered the visitors with a three run inning in the bottom of the second.
Fort Hays State tied the game in the fifth inning but Lindenwood took just one inning to retake the lead. The Lady Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and got three important insurance runs in the sixth.
Lindsay Schroder,
Alexandra Newcomb, and
Macy Bross all led the team with two hits. Bross also drove in four runs, while Newcomb and Kaitlyn Siebert scored two runs.
Megan Noe started on the rubber for Lindenwood and went all seven innings, and struck out six.
After splitting with Fort Hays State the Lady Lions record runs to 8-20. Up next for Lindenwood is a home game against Missouri Science and Technology on Wednesday night at 5 p.m.
