Lady Lions Split With Miners

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team split a pair of games against the Missouri S&T Miners on Wednesday night in St. Charles, Mo. The Lady Lions had to come from behind to win game one 6-5 and dropped game two 2-1.

In the opening game, Lindenwood took the lead in the opening inning with a single run. Missouri S&T tied the game up in the fourth and then took the lead in the sixth with four runs. With the home team trailing by four, the Lady Lions rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score at five. The big hit of the inning came when Emily Johnson hit her third home run of the year to tie the score.

Neither team was able to score in the seventh, and the game headed into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, the Miners were unable to score. In the home half of the inning, Kate Keaton singled in Bailey Marshal for the win.

Keaton led the way on offense with three hits in three at bats. She also scored a run and drove in three. Alexnadra Newcomb pitched in with two hits and Kimberleigh Griffin recorded the win out of the bullpen.

Game two was a pitcher's duel. The Lady Lions scored a run in the second inning but then allowed the tying run in the fourth. With the game tied heading into the last inning the Miners got three hits and scored the winning run.

Newcomb led the team with two hits and a run. Megan Noe went seven innings giving up just two earned runs on six hits.

After the split Lindenwood runs its record to 9-21. Up next for the Lady Lions is a home doubleheader against Pittsburg State on Friday.
