Lions Beat Southwestern Oklahoma State on the Road

Box Score The Lindenwood baseball team jumped out to a big lead in the first two innings in a game against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday night in Weatherford, Okla.  But the Bulldogs did not go down easily, as the Lions had to hold on late in the contest for the 10-9 win.

The game started off well for Lindenwood, scoring five runs in the first inning and then three more in the second inning. The Lions were leading 8-1 after two frames, but in the fourth inning the home team started its comeback.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the fourth and the fifth inning to cut the Lindenwood lead down to just one run. The Lions were able to push the lead back up to two in the seventh after Matt Tellor drove in Zach Loraine. Southwestern Oklahoma's Jeremey Soliday once again cut the lead back to one with a solo home run to leadoff the bottom of the seventh.

Neither team was able to score in the eighth inning and Lindenwood entered the final frame grasping to a one run lead. Mike Wilson gave the Lions an insurance run with a RBI single scoring Tellor.

Lindenwood starter Zac Pearman headed back out to the hill to try and finish off the complete game. He started the inning getting the leadoff hitter to fly out, but then gave up back-to-back singles. Matt Meier entered the game to try and close the contest out.

The first hitter he faced flew out to second base for the second out of the inning. Then he proceeded to walk the next hitter to load the bases with two outs. The Bulldogs then scored a run on a wild pitch to cut the lead to one. Meier then walked the next hitter to once again load the bases.

Ryan Griffin then came out the bullpen for Lindenwood with the tying run on third base and the winning run on second. Griffin would strike out Marc Tarantola to secure the win for the Lions and earn his sixth save of the season.

Wade Rothermich and Ryan Light each had three hits in the game. Tellor led the team with three RBIs and he also scored three times.  Pearman went 8 1/3 innings giving up five earned runs but earned his third win of the season.

With the win Lindenwood improves its record to 16-12. Up next for the Lions is a weekend series against Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.
