Lions Win At California Baptist For The First Time

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team picked up one of its biggest wins of the season on Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep over California Baptist in Riverside, Calif. The Lions avoided a season sweep versus the Lancers with a 30-28, 25-20, and 25-21 victory. The win marks the first time in 15 tries that Lindenwood has defeated California Baptist in Riverside.

Lindenwood stole momentum in the match with a big come-from-behind win in the first set. California Baptist had seven set points but couldn't convert any of them. The Lions had two blocks in that final span, including one by Tim Schmidt and Logan Jarus that gave the Lions a 30-28 win.

The second set was close for the first half before the Lions pulled away. Lindenwood trailed 13-12 but outscored the Lancers by a 13-7 margin the rest of the way. In the third set, the Lions jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never trailed for the entire game.

Lindenwood held California Baptist to just a .171 hitting percentage and the Lions recorded sideouts 68 percent of the time. The Lions had 10 blocks and 43 digs in the match. Jarus had a team-high five blocks, followed by Jack Mitchell with four. Cory Buehler led the team with 14 digs and Austin Tudor recorded eight.

Offensively, Lindenwood hit .243 for the match. Michael Adams led the team with 14 kills and Tudor finished with 10. Mitchell was one kill shy of double-figures and Scott Siwicki finished with seven kills. Tim Schmidt averaged 13 assists a set.

Lindenwood moves to 16-11 on the season with the win. The Lions begin a two-game series at Grand Canyon on Friday at 6 p.m. (mountain time).
