Men's Volleyball Earns Series Split Versus Grand Canyon

The Lions volleyball team split its weekend series with Grand Canyon. Lindenwood won match two on Saturday evening in Phoenix, Ariz. by scores of 25-23, 18-25, 26-24, and 25-19.

Lindenwood won the match by winning the two close sets in the contest. In the first set, the Lions had a 23-19 lead, but Grand Canyon scored four straight to tie it. Lindenwood kept its composure though as Logan Jarus recorded a kill to give the Lions set point, and a block by Scott Siwicki and Jack Mitchell gave Lindenwood the win. Two sets later, Grand Canyon had set point at 24-23, but Lindenwood went on a 3-0 run to steal the set. Siwicki had a kill and Austin Tudor had a kill and solo block in that final run.

Four Lions had double-figure kills and one other player just missed it by one kill. Mitchell led the team with 16, Siwicki had 14, and Michael Adams and Tudor each had 11. Logan Jarus finished with nine kills, and both Jarus and Siwicki hit .400 or better for the match. Other team leaders were Tim Schmidt with 50 assists, Cory Buehler with 11 digs, and Mitchell and Siwicki with six blocks apiece.

Lindenwood had nine more kills in the match and outhit Grand Canyon by a .296 to .268 margin. The Lions also had 11 more digs and two more blocks.

Lindenwood moves to 17-12 on the season with the victory. The Lions will next face Loyola Chicago on Wednesday evening in Chicago.
