Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team swept a doubleheader from the Missouri Southern State Lions on Saturday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. The Lady Lions won the first game of the day 3-1 and won the second game 5-4 after
Kate Keaton hit a walk-off single.
The first game of the day started with Lindenwood taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Missouri Southern cut into the home team's lead with a run in the top of the fifth. With the lead down to one, the Lions scored an important insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, and held on for the win.
Kendall Ryndak pitched the final two innings of the game to secure the win and her second save of the season.
Deidre Merli had the big hit of the game when she hit a two-run home run in the second inning.
Alexandra Newcomb drove in the other Lindenwood run and Lindsay Schroder was one-for-two and scored a run.
In the final game of the day, the Lady Lions once again jumped out to a leadwith three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Missouri Southern's offense finally broke through when it scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead.
Trailing for the first time all day, the Lady Lion offense came right back to tie the score in the home half of the fourth. The contest stayed tied until the bottom of the seventh.
The inning started with Schroder grounding out to shortstop. Missouri Southern looked like it would have two quick outs, but an error by the pitcher allowed
Erin Pietzman to reach first base.
Emily Johnson and
Alexandra Newcomb then hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with just one out. Keaton was the next hitter and came through with a single right back up the middle to win the game for Lindenwood.
Esperum and Newcomb led the way for the Lady Lions with two hits each.
Danelle Emerick led the team with two RBIs.
Adi Powell came out of the bullpen to get the win after going 3 1/3 innings.
After the sweep Lindenwood improved its record to 11-23. Up next for the Lady Lions is a home doubleheader against Columbia College on Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.
