Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team split a doubleheader against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats Friday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. The Lady Lions lost the first game 7-0 and came from behind to win the second game 9-8.
In the first game of the day, Southwest Baptist scored a run in the first inning then Lindenwood starter
Heidi Schertzer settled in. She breezed through the Bearcats for the next five innings. The only problem was that the Southwest Baptist starter was shutting down the Lady Lions offense.
The contest stayed at 1-0 until the top of the seventh inning when the visitors scored six runs with help from the Lindenwood defense. After grasping the 7-0 lead the Bearcats completed the shutout with a scoreless seventh inning.
The Lady Lions were out hit 10-5 and the Lindenwood defense committed four errors. Schertzer pitched all seven innings giving up five earned runs and striking out 12.
The final game of the day started with the Bearcats once again jumping out to an early lead. They scored single runs in the second, third, and three in the fourth inning. In the bottom half of the inning the Lady Lions bats finally awoke. The home team strung together five hits in a row at one point and scored six runs to take the lead.
Southwest Baptist did not take long to tie the game back up. The Bearcats scored three runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead. But just as fast as the visitors took the lead, Lindenwood took it right back. The Lady Lions scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead for good.
Danelle Emerick and Bailey Marshal led the team with two hits each.
Megan Noe pitched the final three innings to earn the win.
After the split Lindenwood runs its record to 14-30. The Lady Lions will be right back in action Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against Central Missouri at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
