Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team honored its three seniors on Saturday afternoon with a split against future MIAA opponent, the Central Missouri Jennies. The Lady Lions won the first game 4-1 and fell in the second game 7-6.
The opening game of the doubleheader was all about senior pitcher
Heidi Schertzer. Making her final start at home, Schertzer tossed maybe her best game of the season. In seven innings of work she gave up just one run on six hits, and struck out 10 hitters.
The Lindenwood offense gave Schertzer an early lead with a single tally in the second inning. The Lady Lions added to the lead in the fourth with a run and two more in the sixth after Kendall Ryndek doubled off the wall. The Jennies scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning.
Senior
Emily Johnson led the team on offense with two hits and two runs scored.
Hannah Braun and
Alyssa Esperum also drove in runs.
The second game of the day was a back-and-forth affair. Every time Central Missouri scored the Lady Lions answered. Both teams scored two runs in the second and third innings and single tallies in the sixth. Finally, in the seventh inning the Jennies brought across a run and Lindenwood could not answer.
Johnson had another two-hit game and
Kate Keaton was one-for-one with a RBI.
Adi Powell started for the Lady Lions and went five innings earning a no decision.
With the split against the Jennies Lindenwood runs its record to 15-31.The Lady Lions will wrap up its 2012 season on April 25 on the road at McKendree.
