Men's Lacrosse Clinches A Winning Season

Box Score The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team survived a back-and-forth game on Friday afternoon at Belmont Abbey and won in double overtime by a 10-9 score. The victory clinched a winning season for the program in its first year against NCAA competition.

Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 7-2 lead and they led Lindenwood 7-3 at halftime. The first 27 minutes of the second half was all Lindenwood though as it scored the only six goals in that span and took a 9-7 lead. It looked like that would be the final margin until the Crusaders tied it with two goals in the final three minutes, including their final score with just three seconds left.

In the first overtime, Lindenwood held possession for the majority of the time and it had a man-up opportunity. The Lions took the only shot on goal of the period but it was saved. In the second extra period, Richard Wilson won the faceoff and Grame Hossack picked up the groundball. Hossack then went straight down and bounced in the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into the period.

Lindenwood was outshot 38-26 in the game, but it won thanks to its goalkeeping. Dan Ashlock entered the game at halftime and made 11 saves in the second half while allowing just two goals. Starter Jake Redlingshafer also had seven saves in the first half. Besides his big goal, Hossack also led the team's defense with seven groundballs.

Offensively, Greg Cameron had three second-half goals to spark the team's comeback. Andrew Szczepan and McNein Hewitt each had two goals, and Carter McCracken and Brandon Lenz had one goal apiece. Josh Arras and Tim Fisher were credited with an assist. Wilson finished the game 15-of-22 on faceoffs.

Lindenwood improves to 8-6 on the season. The Lions will end their year on Sunday afternoon at nationally-ranked Pfeiffer.
