Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team earned a split of a doubleheader against the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Thursday night in St. Charles, Mo. The Blue Tigers used a big seventh inning to propel themselves to a 10-5 win in game one. The Lady Lions battled back from behind to win the second game of the night 8-5.
The first contest of the night was a back-and-forth affair. Lindenwood capitalized on four Blue Tigers errors to take a 5-4 lead heading into the final inning.
Trailing by one, Lincoln started the seventh inning with three consecutive hits to tie the score. After tying the game, the Blue Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out. Kristina Hein came to the plate and gave the visitors the lead with a grand slam.
After the top of the seventh finally came to an end Lincoln scored six runs on seven hits and went on to the win 10-5. The Blue Tigers out hit the Lady Lions 14-8 in game one.
Deidre Merli and
Emily Johnson led Lindenwood with two hits each.
Hannah Braun chipped in with one hit, scored a run, and drove in two RBIs.
The final game of the night started with Lincoln scoring a run in the first to take the 1-0 lead. The Lady Lions tied the game in the second inning, but the Blue Tigers came right back and regained the lead in the third.
The bottom half of the third inning was when the home team took control of the contest. Lindenwood scored six runs in the inning which included three straight triples. The Lady Lions let up two runs in the fourth but held on for the 8-5 win.
Johnson once again led the team with three hits. Merli and
Alyssa Esperum chipped in with two hits, and Kaitlyn Siebert led the team with two RBIs.
After the spilt, Lindenwood's record went to 12-26. Up next for the Lady Lions is a road doubleheader against Truman State in Kirksville, Mo.
