Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team split a doubleheader with the Northeastern State Riverhawks on Friday night in St. Charles, Mo. The Riverhawks won game one 12-3 and the Lions were victorious in game two 9-6.
The first game of the doubleheader started with the Lions jumping out to an early lead. Lindenwood scored two runs in the first inning but the River Hawks cut the lead in half in the second.
Both teams scored runs in the fourth, then in the fifth Northeastern State exploded on offense. The visitors scored nine runs on nine hits to take the lead.
Jason Striegel led the way for the Lions at the plate with two hits in three at bats.
Ryan Light scored a run and drove in a run while
Wade Rothermich and
Zach Loraine each scored a run.
The nightcap was cruising right along with both starting pitchers dominating. It wasn't until the fifth inning when Lindenwood finally broke through. The home team scored two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.
Northeastern State didn't go down lightly though. The Riverhawks scored six runs to cut the lead to just one. The Lions did not let the big inning faze them. They answered with two insurance runs in the seventh to regain a three-run lead.
Ryan Griffin came in to pitch the final 2 1/3 innings to earn the save for starter
Zac Pearman. Rothermich led the team at the plate driving in three runs on two hits.
After the split Lindenwood's record goes to 17-16. These two teams will go back at it Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
