Box Score The Lindenwood Lions baseball team scored five runs over the final two innings, for a 6-5 come from behind win over Northeastern State at the Lou Brock Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Northeastern State scored the first run of the game in the second inning and then added to the lead with a single run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth. Trailing 4-0, the Lions cut into the lead with a run in the fifth inning.
The Riverhawks added a run in the top of the eighth to take what looked to be a commanding 5-1 lead. The home team did not go down easily though. Lindenwood scored two runs in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to just two but were down to its final three outs.
The final inning started with
Mike Wilson walking and
Jason Striegel singling. The Lions had runners at first and second and nobody out when
Zach Loraine squared around to bunt. He put a perfect sacrifice down the third base line. The pitcher, Roldan Ochoa, picked up the bunt and fired it wide at first which allowed Wilson to score, Striegel to get third, and Loraine to second.
With the tying run on third and the go ahead run on second
Colton Moore hit a deep fly ball to left field which tied the score.
Wade Rothermich then hit a groundball to shortstop and beat out the throw to first base which allowed the tying run to come across.
The contest came to a close when
Eddie Sutton's groundball was booted by the shortstop and allowed the winning run to come across.
Striegel led the way at the plate for the Lions going four-for-four with a run scored.
Matt Tellor chipped in with three hits and Rothermich had two hits.
With the win Lindenwood improves its record to 18-16. Up next for the Lions is a four-game series against Central Missouri State on the road starting on Friday.
