Synchronized swimmer Anouk Eman was recently featured in a Subway restaurants ad in her home country of Aruba.
The Lindenwood athlete has won numerous gold medals for Aruba in Caribbean competitions and recently emerged as the country’s next Olympic hopeful. Synchronized swimming is a popular sport in the small island nation, as well as the sister islands of Bonaire and Curacao, and the accomplishments of Eman and the local team are a source of great pride among the island's 100,000 residents. She aims to compete in solo and duet at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona next summer.
Eman was chosen to represent the sandwich chain due to her notoriety in the islands. Her ad was used on banners and window displays to promote the recent opening of a new location and it will also be featured in newspapers and general promotion for other stores in the area.
Roughly translated, the ad says,
“Ten years ago, Anouk Eman (age 20) discovered her passion for synchronized swimming. Not long after she started practicing, she became a member of the (Aruba) National team. She is currently studying at Lindenwood University in Missouri, where in 2012 together with her synchronized swimming team, she celebrated a historical moment for her university when they won third place in a competition while competing against 34 other colleges from America. This young athlete tells us how important nutrition is and that her coach is very supportive of healthy eating. "Food is Fuel!” Anouk says.
Now Subway offers her favorite healthy sandwich. You can choose how healthy you want your sandwich to be. Anouk's choice is grilled chicken and she recommends that everyone try it!
Enjoy!!!!”
