Synchronized swimming won the North Regional Championships March 2-3 in Fort Collins, Colorado.  The Lady Lions totaled 96 points to finish six points ahead of reigning national champion Ohio State in second place.  It was the first overall win at the event for Lindenwood since 2015.    
 
The Lady Lions earned gold in the trio, duet, solo, and the A and B technical categories, along with taking silver in the team event and C technical category.
 
Head Coach Mikayla Francese and Assistant Coach Erika Guilbault were extremely proud of the effort.
 
"Our success only comes from our intense focus on staying true to what we set out to do this season," Francese said.  "We linked arms and have gone full force, together.  United we stand!"

The Lady Lions set the tone for the start of the competition on Saturday when freshmen Lindsay Papper earned a silver placement in the C category while sophomore Sarolta Lukovszky earned the gold in the B technical category. Freshmen Maria Lluc Bonnin and synchro seniors Marialaura Villasana and Kyra Hoevertsz earned the gold in the A technical category with a combined score of 76.2262. Directly following the technical events, Hoevertsz, Maria Escalona, and Oyku Evliya performed their revamped "Tribal" themed trio.
 
"We have really honed in on certain areas of our training this year," said Guilbault. "It's very exciting to see that show in our results thus far."
 
"There have been a lot of changes to our routines," Francese added. "We've added more difficulty, artistic impression, and technical merit in the hopes of increasing our scores."
 
The duo of Villasana and Lukovszky swept the duet competition with a flawless performance. Directly following were teammates Hoevertsz and Bonnin who took the silver medal.
 
On Sunday, the team continued to shine with the solo competition. Hoevertsz showed improvement with her artistic gold medal performance while teammate Villasana shocked the crowd with her technically focused bronze medal performance.
 
The group of Papper, Bonnin, Escalona, Evliya, Villasana, Lukovszky, Kelly Thurlow, and Brenna Wojtysiak came together to finish the weekend with their new and improved "Run" routine. The team sprinted to the top of the podium and finished only 0.1 away from the gold.
 
"We're so ready to continue to improve these next three weeks and finish this season on an even stronger note." Francese concluded.
 
Synchronized swimming travels to San Antonio, Texas March 27-31 for Collegiate Nationals, the final competition of the 2019 season for the Lady Lions.
