Field Hockey Falls to NCAA Division I Ball State by a Score of 8-2

Box Score The Lindenwood field hockey team fell to Ball State University 8-2 Sunday morning in Muncie, Indiana. The road matchup marked the first of two against a NCAA Division I program this season for the Lady Lions.

Ball State struck first just 2:48 into the matchup. The redbirds' next two goals came two minutes apart. An own goal by Lindenwood made the score 4-0 at the end of the first half.

Ball State tallied its fifth goal 2:37 into the second half. The Lady Lions answered with a goal by Emily Stephens, her first of the season. Stephens made it 6-2 with her second of the game with 14 minutes remaining but wouldn't be enough to boost Lindenwood to a comeback. The Redbirds would go on to score two more to make the final 8-2.

Victoria Gil started her 6th game in net for the Lady Lions. Gil recorded six saves on 14 shots while Lindenwood posted four shots on goal for the contest. The Redbirds held a 16 to two advantage in corners.

The Lady Lions are now 2-4 on the season and will be back on the road September 29th against Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.
